The modern day scientific method as used in the analysis of problems usually has four steps:
! The statement of the problem,
! understanding the problem,
! solution procedure,
! results and discussion.

It seems very much like the way The Buddha tackled the problem of life or existence.

The Buddha realized that existence is a problem only because of the suffering it brings. It is not difficult to realize that if life did not bring suffering all of us would have been happy eternally. But all of us have to face suffering. As the Buddha said

"Birth is suffering ( dukkha ); aging is suffering; sickness is suffering; death is suffering, sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief, and despair are suffering; association with the unpleasant is suffering; separation from the pleasant is suffering; not to get what one wants is suffering; in brief, the five aggregates of clinging are suffering."

The Buddha called this "the problem of suffering".
He who understands this has the right view.
